Highlights: finished palm leaves, met the neighbors, 2 new roommates for same room, Citiwide electrician

I was determined to finish this tree project today. After refining my tactics a bit, I cut through the rest of the dead leaves in rapid time (=
The neighbors next door remember me from Aug 2005, when I bought the house (= they were excited that they’ve got a new tree-man next door! Ha ha. Not so fast! This project was a pain in the butt- but it looks nice now that it’s done. And more importantly, I didn’t have to spend $700 again!

Two people responded to my Roomates.com ad for the open room today! It’s great not having to wait too long to find people interested in moving in. Our experience with Ben drove one point home though,,, it’s better to be patient and find a good roommate, than just take the next person who comes along.

With that in mind,, I’m not pressing anyone to be quick to decide to move in or not… they can take their time & get back to me if interested. (= that’s how I’d like to be treated anyways.

The Citiwide electrician came to the house today to check on that outlet with the burning smell. Sure enough,,, shoddy wiring. The list of shortcuts taken by the builders of this house is growing. Apparently the builders used the cheapest outlets on the market from 20 years ago (.20 cent snap in ones instead of the $1.80 screw-in ones), and the wiring is loose behind most of them. So they’re old & cheap. Obviously the house hasn’t burnt down yet- but the burnt smell from yesterday is too close to home to continue the short-cut trend.

Electrician says the prudent thing to do is change all 47 electric outlets in the house + the circuit breakers outside… let’s do it. It’s not cheap either! $4,100. I bet a dozen krispy kremes I could find someone to do the job for less,, but I don’t have the time or energy to hunt around. I’m focused on flying during the week, and fixing up the house as well as I can make it on the weekends. That’s it.
