Highlights: promotion news, AOM, squadron bowling, figuring out my new cell-phone accessories

Whew! That flight bonus paperwork got submitted not a moment too soon! I got a fantastic phone call today from Marine headquarters congradulating me for making the promotion list. (=

So, Thursday I become a Major select, which means sometime later this year I’ll be promoted. Usually a list comes out in Jan-Feb with 500+/- names of whoever is “selected”. And then the Marine Corps promotes 20 to 40 per month, going down a lineal list until they get to your number.

So, I’ll pin on the next rank sometime this year, but I don’t know exactly when. No worries. It’s just good to be on the list.

We had an All Officers Meeting (AOM), to get all the pilots on the same sheet of music at the squadron & pass any interesting news… including the promotion announcement. A few of my peers are also on the list (=

Then the squadron had a social function at the bowling alley- so the officers & enlisted could spend some fun time outside of work getting to know each other, knock back a few beers & play. It was fun. Different than having a few junior female enlisted at a social dinner with senior officers.

I can’t remember the last time I bowled. Judging from the first gutter-ball I threw, I was ready to say I had no business being on a bowling team- but then I got lucky & somehow rolled the ball straight down the middle,,, racking up 4 strikes! My score actually hit triple digits! Nice. Don’t know how that happened. Ha ha.

So, I’ve got a new cell phone… I just need to figure out how to use it now. It’s one of those new razors. I’ve had plenty of cell phones before- but this one just isn’t quite as user friendly as the others. Looks cool though.
I guess that’s how we all get suckered in.

At home I looked at the nest of dead, brown palm leaves on the tree in front, and tried to figure a way of cutting those things down, without paying some landscaping company $700 to do it. They’re 30 feet up,, so that’s just a bit out of reach from the ground. =/ I’ll keep working on that. No way I’m paying for a project I can do myself.
