Highlights: filed & organized all my bills, Cathy’s house (pick-up desktop, drop off lappie, which is freezing up on me), American traffic & lunch

It pays to be as organized as possible when living overseas. Insurance, bank statements, truck registration, mortgage, tenant leases, receipts… my project this morning was to get everything put in binders that were easy enough for my roomates to sort through, and find something I might need later. I had to get all my tax deductable receipts in one place too.

My laptop is out of commission for some reason,,, since I don’t understand the bells & whistles in there, I called up my computer guru friend Cathy. She lives for this stuff (=

She built my desktop computer, and just breathed life into that again after 2 years of sitting in a box. Her parents are visiting from Michigan (= The funny thing is, the women here are the ones into electronics & toys. Dad is just along for the ride. They’re a fun family to hang out with.

On another note, I am loving being back in the states, and getting adjusted to normal traffic (ie. Vehicles that move faster than 40 mph) without gridlock Jakarta traffic jams… having NPR on the radio dial of my truck again! ha ha (=

… and sandwiches! Seriously- you have no idea how much you miss simple stuff like food served between two pieces of bread, until you go 10 months without it.
A year ago I would have been hard pressed to come up with a list of traditional American things… food, culturalisms, peculiarities with language, social norms… I can think of tons of things now.
And the fact that the majority of our fast food comes between two slices of bread, usually with some variety of meat & potatoes, that’s a staple of American eating that I haven’t gotten in Indonesia for 10 months now.

Besides, I want to show my Indonesian friends what American food looks like. (= and show why scooters will never make it on American roads. They’d get run over.
