Highlights: clean fridge & housework, movies with Becc, looking for roommates
Last night my roommates / tenants (Violet & Ben) were arguing over who should clean up a spilled Coke mess in the fridge. It was a bit ridiculous, but those two mix like water & vinegar anyways- and this was my first occasion hearing how condescending Ben sounds when he talks to people. (I was in the next room). I guess, in a funny way- Ben has taken it personally that Violet hasn’t warmed up to him more in the 6 months he’s been living here. That’s probably because Violet & Yvette find Ben a bit creepy.
It occurred to me this morning- as I’m the owner of the house- that I care the most about keeping it clean & in good order. I don’t care who spilled what, or when. It’s dirty now, so I took the shelves out & cleaned the entire refrigerator inside & out myself.
There’s plenty of little jobs around the house I find that I can jump into: cleaning, laundry, ironing, figuring out how I’m going to re-surface the pool & cut down old Palm leaves myself. I’ve got one more round of property taxes to shoot through too. Whew! 1% of $650,000 is how much again? joys of homeownership.
Since I’m advertising on-line for roommates to fill an open room, I did a little walk-through & took some pics. Here’s my house in San Diego! I’m glad to be back in it for a few weeks.
A significant percentage of homes in Indonesia are made of brick. On Java, loggers get more money for exporting their wood; so brick is actually cheaper there. The wood homes I saw in a few places are not really something you would find in America. I thought I’d take a picture of typical American home construction to show my Indonesian friends what American homes are constructed of, for the most part. I don’t know if my Indonesian friends have ever seen or heard of drywall or roof shingles.

By 4pm I was ready for a break. I met Becc after work for a bite & a movie. Children of Men… eh,, well I like Clive Owen, but this sci-fi action drama seemed to err on the depressing side of entertainment story-telling. Not sure I would go again, but it was worth getting out of the house.
