Highlights: T-shirt uniforms for Dufan, swimming, night out
The idea of going to the amusement park with a group of 40+ makes every preparation worth while,,, including thinking of ways to prevent losing each other.
I struck on the idea of same color t-shirts as a sort of uniform. White maybe? Does everyone have a white t-shirt? Apparently not.
$20 and a trip to the Blok A market with Eli fixed that. 20 t-shirts later, we were a step closer to being ready for tomorrow. Eli got red ribbon as well, which we’ll all fix to our t-shirts in a bow.
Jakarta feels like the middle of a heat wave these days. The mercury is topping 90°, and is just brutal under the sun. it was a good time to jump in the pool.
Lydia had plans to schmooze at some party going on downtown somewhere, which sounded like a fun way to get out of the house.
Every now & then we get caught in a cab with a rigged or accelerated meter. Relying on cabs & buses to get around the city, we’ve already become accustomed to what transportation usually costs… so when a $3 trip is registering at $5 half-way through the ride- we had to call the driver on this obvious bull-puckey. Pisses me off when folks try to take advantage of us because we’re westerners. Many here figure,, “eh,,, they can afford it anyways.”
I haven’t been around this many American faces in a while! Not to mention Heineken booths and people knocking back thick mugs of whatever, blissfully free of any atmosphere of Javanese judgment…
I even met a couple of USINDO peers from a class 2 years ago,,, freshly returned to Indonesia for work or research. The USINDO world is small sometimes. It’s great!
