The watermill was really interesting. The ladies rent time, 8,000 Rupiah (80cents) gets them about 5 hours in the mill, to crush coffee (as in the video), or nutmeg, cinnamon, other spices or whatever needs crushing.
It’s neat to see how the watermills work up close. Pretty simple, and yet such a creative way of harnessing waterpower.
Next door (and throughout the region) people keep monkeys as expert tree climbers & coconut grabbers. There are a lot of leashed monkeys here.
Waterbuffalo, of course, are everywhere, and are a pretty integral part of the daily life routine for many rice farmers here.
