Fourth stop: Burial site of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II (1777-1852)
Again, ornately housed and frequently visited, Sultan Badaruddin II remains highly revered. He is buried with his 4 wives: Nyai Mas Neimah (Java), Ratu Sepuh (Palembang), Ratu Gading (Malaysia), and Mas Ayu Ratu (China). His 32 children lay just outside, with an extra building housing those who claimed to be his children.
Most of the Muslim kings are buried with their imam (spiritual teacher) as well.
I asked a few people what his major accomplishments were, and got mostly blank stares. Who cares right? As long as our history books say he was great,,
