On the way home I stopped by Blok M, the 2nd oldest shopping mall in Jakarta. There’s an active night market there, with people crammed between shoe vendors, jilbab & prayer robes, to pirated DVD’s and leather handbags. You might think you were at an auction, by the sounds of the vendors trying to attract potential shoppers… “lima belaaaaaas! Lima belas, lima belas, lima belas, lima belas, lima belaaaaaaas!”
(meaning 15 (thousand) Rupiahs for whatever he was selling… or the equivalent of $1.50)
