Highlights: slave to the lap-top today
Whew! The proverbial ball & chain almost manifested itself between me & my lappie today… I think 19 hours straight was the total time spent organizing ALL receipts I’ve kept over my 4 months here,, accounting for exchange rate differences, and putting a budget report together, so I can tap into the budget money that’s supposed to be paying me back for all my trips this year. I’m still figuring out how that works, and it’s been 4 months since anyone explained it to me.
Aside from that, I worked until 4am on a report describing my week in Bogor for my boss. The way the DATT explains my purpose for being here as a FAO sounds wonderfully simple & straight forward: “I want you out there seeing what Indonesia feels, tastes, smells & looks like.” As an Army FAO himself, I appreciate how it takes years sometimes to boil your entire mission down to one sentence like that. (=
The way I convey the sights, smells, and tastes of my focus country is through a series of trip reports… I’m looking forward to it- but I might not see the sun for a few days while hammering them out.
The only time I left the house today was at 5:47,,, at the moment the mosque was calling the “opening of the fast”,,, and I could eat again. whew!
I get hot flashes sometimes during the day,,, which just feels like my stomach sending out an APB on getting some food down here- pronto!
I ignore it & the feeling goes away for an hour or two. Helps when I’m busy. I still get appreciative & surprised looks from folks on the street who hear I’m still fasting- nearly 2 weeks into Ramadan. It’s worth it.
