On the way home from the school, I followed Indah, and had Rosa on the back of my scooter. Just as we were getting back into the parts of Yogya I recognize,, and were about to make a left turn onto Jl. Kaliurang, a young girl sideswiped me- and I went flying off my scooter into cement barricade & dirt. =(

My first accident here… I landed face down with Rosa on my back,, so- I knew she was all-right. I picked myself up, and there was a crowd of concerned people forming around me before I knew it.

In a few seconds, I gathered that I was fine,, and Rosa was fine too. I looked around for the girl who hit me… She fell too & was being picked up. A few superficial scratches were all anybody got.

My next thought was frustration… this girl just launched me into a cement barricade & scratched my rental scooter up pretty good! Ahhhh! I can’t return it like that!

One look at her sad, quiet face,, and it was impossible to express anger. She was scared that she just hit a bule, and by the look of it, was in no position to pay to fix my scooter.

There happened to be police on the scene immediately. Someone had rolled my scooter across the street for me, and we explained what happened to two policemen. Essentially all he cared about was that we both had our registration card & drivers license,, and if no-one was hurt- and I wasn’t pressing charges,,, that was it. “Drive a little safer next time” was the parting shot.

No exchange of numbers or insurance info,,, I didn’t even catch the responsible girl’s name. it wasn’t really worth the fuss. There happened to be a Honda shop right there! (what are the odds?) The estimate to fix all the scratches was $30. I can live with that.
