A 20 minute cab ride later, we were at the J.W. Marriot hotel for the Marines Birthday Ball,,, Nina’s 1st.
The ballroom was large and elegant. Gunnery Sergeant Tull (Marine Security Guard detachment commander) did a great job organizing and preparing the whole event.
It’s rare to have an acting U.S. Ambassador as a guest of honor. This was my first Marine Birthday ball with embassy staff, if not my first outside of the country. (2001 off the coast of Pakistan & 2003 in Dubai, UAE; and both were significantly less fancy (=…)
We sat with my boss, Maj Tim Nolin and his wife & daughter; his boss, Col Kevin Richards & his wife Jo; and two Indonesian TNI guests, Col Deny (Marines) & Maj Pangestu (Navy).
