Highlights: Yahoo down, trip reports, badminton & fun talks with dad & uncle till midnight
Today had a little bit of everything in it… some productivity, some lazyness tag-teamed with boredom, some running around, some playing sports, and some entertainingly mind twisting conversation. All in all,, it was fun.
I started by getting out of bed at the ripe old hour of 10 something. (lazyness,,, check!)
Then ran to the internet café to attempt sending some e-mail. Apparently there was an earthquake in Taiwan yesterday which damaged/shut-down the Yahoo server for this part of the world,,, and anyone’s best guess as to when we will be able to use Yahoo again is a couple weeks! Ahhh! (inconvenience & minor frustration,,, check!)
I came home with some fruit & snacks for mbah ibu (Nina’s grandmother), and worked on Trip reports on my laptop for 4 or 5 hours. (productivity,,, check!)
Then, to get out of the house, Nina and I visited her aunt & uncle and had seafood dinner by the side of the road at a warung. (running around,,, check!)
I was challenged to an 8-10pm game of badminton, and came up on the short end (ahem,, that would be the losing side) of 3 games against the lucky & skillful Nina. That was fun. It always helps when you can see the shuttlecock, but the re-match is already planned for tomorrow. (= (sports,,, check!)
And just when I thought the night was winding down, I enjoyed engaging Nina’s dad & another uncle in conversational attempts to dissect Indonesia’s political quandaries and come up with solutions for Indonesian advancement into the ranks of the non-poor, open societies, where rule of law reigns & corruption is reduced to smaller, pettier rings of influence peddling. (entertaining & mind twisting conversation,,, check!)
It was a full day. A fun one at that (=
I remain silently & happily impressed that other looming topics of discussion have somehow remained aloof in the background, and off the front page.
Mom has registered a few probing zingers,,, asking about my views on religion and whether I would be joining them for Muslim prayers on New Years… nothing too direct. Just scouting out the defenses (=
