Highlights: writing, movies, enjoying the slower pace of life
Today was another example of the slower pace of life in a small town. There really wasn’t much to do. I worked on my computer a little bit. Tried to find an internet café that worked (one had no internet connections, the other was closed). Watched an Indonesian movie (Heart),,, a dramatic, sappy love story of Sinetron soap quality. Ate nasi jagung, corn pounded into a powder which is sometimes used as a rice substitute in porraige.
It rained buckets for an hour or so. Nina & the neighbors had a great time playing badminton outside & running between the raindrops.
Dad is wrestling with some dishonest former security employees (whom he had fired for accepting bribes),,, who seem to be trying their hand at a little revenge, calling in favors from influential friends, animated by some tall tales & distorted truths.
It shows an interesting & prevalent side of “business as usual” in Java… like mafia mentality, justice often runs as deep as your personal connections. “who you know” is traditionally more important than “what you know”.
Things should be fine here, but it sucks up time, energy, and taxes a certain pain in the butt factor.
Aside from all that- and sadly sitting through a Jean Claude Van Damme movie (teamed up with Dennis Rodman of all people) for lack of better TV options- =/ whew,,,
My day was fine (=
