Anyways- taking a break from heavy conversation, we went home & popped in a few more videos. Ice Age 2 & The Omen.
Horror movies not being a personal favorite of mine, I excused myself to play some more badminton outside (=
Over dinner in downtown Cepu, my head was still on a roll with mind-bending questions and philosophical stumbling blocks. I think I regailed Nina a touch too long over the complexity of simple meanings that we take for granted. This is “good”, that is “bad”. Seems simple enough, until you try to define it. “truth” vs. “untruth”… ahh,, another fascinatingly simple quandary.
Was it Mark Twain who said, “Nothing is good or bad, but thinking makes it so?”
Well- I was entertaining myself anyways. After 40 minutes of rambling on, i recognized that Nina had been smiling & nodding patiently, without saying anything tonight… and that probably meant she was bored or spent.
It’s the night before Idul Adha (and New Years Eve), and the mosques are in full swing. It’s mostly kids voices ringing out over the loudspeakers, chanting the same prayer over and over… “Allah is great” stretched out in Arabic. Seriously- it’s midnight now, and the voices have been non-stop since 7pm. I’m not sure how long into the night it will go- but many a vocal chord will be sore tomorrow. (=
