One of my favorite parts of the day was visiting the royal palace “Istana Basa Pagaruyung”. The actual Minangkabau palace burned to the ground in the early 1800’s, (not intentionally, through war or anything), and was only recently rebuilt to showcase how Minangkabau kings and queens once lived. The last Minang king died in 1849.
