Highlights: Gianyar beach, the market & oleh-oleh

Day #6 of the fast. 3am came early. =/ whew!

I drove back down to Gianyar beach today & hung out, talking to local folks… fishermen, shopkeepers, random people at the market. I kept hearing about how few tourists have come this month,, and how many days & weeks have gone by without a single sale… Poverty is a crushing, daily reality here… even in paradise. The people are always smiling though & happy to see a westerner interested enough to stop & talk with them; especially in their own language. I learned “thank-you” in Balinese today. “Sugeng suksema” (=
