Highlights: getting through another fasting day, organizing my budget, fly to Bali

Day #4 of my 0300 wake-up call. Whew- I need to get myself to bed earlier these days!

I made a lot of progress in catching up the website this afternoon, and organizing my receipts.

I got a really nice compliment from Pak Parjiman today by sms.
“orang-orang kampong saya sangat senang atas kedatangan mas Jonathan. Mereka berkata mas Jonathan ramah dan sopan. Sangat berbeda dengan yang mereka lihat orang Amerika di film-film tv.”
Translated:
“the people of my village are really happy about Mr. Jonathan’s visit. They say Mr. Jonathan is friendly & polite. So different from American people they see in movies and TV.”

I promise, I didn’t solicit that! Ha ha (=
Thanks Pak Parjiman! (your check is in the mail! Ha ha)

I almost found myself in a jam today…
1. One of my professors from Monterey (NPS) is in town,,, and sure as shootin- he wanted to meet tonight. Ah man! 24 hours ago,,, no problem!
2. My boss, though on leave this week, informed me at 2pm that I was expected at the Marine House on Friday night. Ah! What?
Disaster averted,,, but I was almost stuck with a mandatory fun event.

The trip to the airport requires about 2 hours (1 hour of which accounts for our average speed of 0-5 mph). The taxi driver loooooved that I was observing the fast & learning about Islam. Ha ha. I’m trying not to exaggerate the number of times it comes up, or the reaction I get from folks.

I started reading a book I got the other day, “What Muslims Believe” by John Bowker; a book published in 1998 from a Muslim living in Britain, addressing common perceptions of Muslims by non-Muslims in the West. Interesting read, and applicable today, even as it predates 9/11 and Afghanistan/Iraq… Many of these issues were already there.

At the airport, I learned my flight is routed through Yogya!
We had a 20 minute stop-over… so I sms’ed Nina, ran off the plane for 5 minutes & met her at the airport for a quick hug, then ran back on the plane. (= ha ha. An un-planned gift.
