Around the main square in Surabaya, vendors abound, selling crisp “dollar bills”… packets of fresh Rupiah notes. The idea is, this is the gift-giving season- Muslim Christmas… and many people give gifts to their kids, employees, family, etc… a popular gift is brand spanking new money. $12.50 gets you a $10 packet of crispy 10cent bills (1,000 Rp each).
There are always people taking advantage of well intended situations,,, so you have to be careful, because this is where a lot of counterfeit money enters circulation.
