Seventh stop: home

Nina was worried there might be cars stretched up & down the street when we got home… all the aunts, uncles & cousins coming over to offer their free 2 cents about this American boy Nina brought home. Ha ha. The crowd must have cleared out by the time we got home. Coast was clear.

We beat ‘dad’ home by about 2 minutes. (= we hadn’t gotten through the front door as his car pulled into the drive. Nina joked that he must have been whipping his driver hard to get home from Surabaya (a 3 hour drive). Ha ha.

I like him. He was a very down to earth guy, easy to talk to & interested in meeting me. We sat on the couch & talked for about an hour. I described the Marine FAO (Foreign Area Officer) program, and my efforts to learn Indonesian culture & language while I’m here for a year… how I got to study at UGM in Yogya for the summer & where I’ve been in Indonesia so far. I pulled my computer out & showed pics of my family (SanDiego trip after my 2nd deployment, maman & papa), my helicopter, and some of my 1st & 2nd deployment pics. (=

The ladies left us alone for most of the time,, but I had the distinct feeling that attention was being paid from other corners of the house as to how it was going between me & ‘dad’. (= I didn’t see the eyes peeking around the corner,,, just felt them. Ha ha.
