After leaving the harbor and driving around a little more, we stopped at one of the semi-permanent “tent cities” to see what it was like.
The people were all characteristically friendly and intrigued to see a western visitor. I said ‘good afternoon’ about 20 times “selamat siang!” (which you hear in the video) and stopped to talk with them for a minute.
I’m happy to see they are out of tents,, off the ground, and in a place that keeps them cool during the day, warm at night, and potentially dry during the rainy season (coming up in October). Tents were bad for air circulation, and quickly became insufferable between the heat of the day & cold at night.
