I put my haggling skills to the test later, in the pursuit of souvenirs from Bali. I talked most shop-keepers down to 50% of their asking price… which I felt good about… until meeting others later who bought the same stuff for ¼ of the price. Oh well! It’s still 20 times cheaper than you could get stuff in the states, and I just helped out the local economy,, so there’s a silver lining in everything if you look for it.
There was a big festival going on in Ubud today. I asked what it was about & got a few different answers. It’s either the birthday of the town, or the beginning of a month-long celebration of Indonesia’s independence from Dutch colonialism. Either way- it was a great show of Balinese cultural dances, story-telling & music.
My favorite part, I have to admit, was bringing my Frisbee. I met a great British couple (Lloyd & Michelle Walker) at my hotel yesterday, and kept bumping into them around town, after following their great advice about things to check-out.
