We spent the night in Magelang (2 hours from Jogja, about 20 miles due West of Merapi) at Nana’s uncle’s, Om Yanto. On the way, we stopped at Ketep Pass, which is supposed to be a pristine view of Merapi. Instead, we found ourselves downwind of a gigantic cloud of ash.
