Highlights: fly to Hanoi

It’s a little sad to leave Hoi An, because it’s a great little town- but I’m somewhat relieved to put some distance between my pocket-book and all those shops.

We contracted a bus for the 3 ½ hour drive up to Hue to catch our flight to Hanoi later in the afternoon.
We got there early (12 instead of 1pm), but with all our luggage (which had multiplied for all of us), we were somewhat stuck. I wished I had the freedom to hop in a cab & run out to look around Hue a little bit, but no such luck. There’s one flight per day going to Hanoi (2:40pm), and we weren’t about to miss it.

The airport was a bit weird though. It was a ghost town when we got there… Nobody home. Workers and a scattered few other passengers started showing up an hour later (1pm). Apparently the airport opens an hour & a half before the first flight of the day,,, (ours). We just sat in the empty lobby & waited for airlines staff to show up so we could check our bags.

The flight was uneventful except for the ham sandwich they served us in flight. At first I was excited enough to take a picture, then the girls opened it up to take a closer look & immediately wished they hadn’t. I’m not sure what kind of ham substitute that was- (not quite spam) but,,, it was small & went down fast enough.
