All packed, the 5 of us took off at 8am on a 7 hour drive up the coast to Nha Trang.
The trip was relatively flat, the roads were wide & smooth, and we could travel about 100 km/hour.

We were in for a treat when we got to Nha Trang! We booked a night at the Sunrise Beach Hotel, because several other options came up booked full. $198 a night is steeper than most, but if we split that 3 ways, I’ll be fine sleeping on the floor, or on a cot.

As it happened, that was not necessary. Sunrise Beach is indeed a 5-star establishment, and since almost all of their rooms were booked as well, they upgraded us to an Executive suite for the same price! Felt like paying business class & getting bumped up to 1st class while boarding the plane.

Let’s just say, we were impressed with our digs for the night! We had a palacial apartment on the 9th floor, complete with hot-tub on the balcony, overlooking the South China Sea. There was a happy hour in progress somewhere in the hotel between 6-11pm. The girls were happy. Pearls also seem to be a specialty from this region. There’s a pearl farm island in the bay, and the hotel sells a collection of Japanese pearls.

Hoi An, by the way, very much resembles the French Riviera, with Malibu-esque beaches instead of pebbles (like Nice). It’s gorgeous. For dinner we found our way to “Good Morning Vietnam Italian restaurant”… I don’t see the connection, but after smelling the pizza fresh out of the oven,, it didn’t matter. It was like being transported through space & time. Robert De Niro movies were playing on the TV behind me, and I had the lightest, fluffiest crusted 4 Stagioni pizza I ever remember tasting! Oh man,,, it was delicious! Each slice was a bite of heaven on warm crust. Whew…
Nha Trang was just a stop-over on a longer trip, but it could have been a worthwhile destination if one were looking to relax & enjoy a great tourist spot.
