Next, we descended down to Lake Batur, the largest lake in Bali. The drop in tourism is hurting the local economy, pushing local traders & salespeople to adopt a near desperate pitch in their voices as they plead for you to buy something from them.

The chess set with an offering price $20 whittled away to $15, then $12, $10, and finally $5 as I got back in the car after saying “No thank-you” as politely as I could for the 20th time. Same story for t-shirts, hats, wood carvings & nik-naks of all kinds.
