Many of the locals were surprised and happy to see a random American face in the crowd. Nina had retreated to the couch for a nap, so I went by myself. As is custom, they all wanted to know where I’m from, if I’m married, how old I am, what my job is and if I like being in Indonesia (roughly in that order). Naturally, they produced a microphone at the mosque, so that everyone could hear my answers (= spontaneous interview in progress.
Many wanted to know if Idul Adha is celebrated in America. Well,,, statistically there are 6 Million Muslims living in America, so probably; but I’ve never heard of this before.
They were all very friendly, and requested my presence at the local karaoke spot later tonight. Ha ha,,, well, we’ll see about that. Thanks for the invite! Gotta run now!
I walked back home, picked up sleeping Nina and her sis Tenty, drove back out to school to pick up mom, and ran a few errands in town, to include buying fireworks for later tonight.
