Highlights: research Srivijaya + Palembang history, South Sumatra museum, Masjid Agung, floating village & traditional house.
Hotel Sandjaja has a computer with internet access! So I consulted my friends at Google & filled in a little information about the Srivijaya & Palembang kingdoms for my own sense of history. That got my day off to a pretty good start.
One of the questions I went to bed with yesterday was, “why is Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II celebrated as a national hero above so many others that came before him?” The airport is named after him, his face is on money (10,000 Rupiah note), his name or image frequently appears…
