Sutrisno is an energetic, hard-working guy… easy to like. He’s from Northern Sumatra, which explains getting lost a time or two,, adding a few hours of sitting on a scooter to our trip- but, I couldn’t be upset with the guy.
When we got to the 2nd harbor, I asked how much it would cost for a trip over to Krakatau,,, expecting something in the $20-$30 range. 1 Million Rupiah ($100) was the answer I got. Huh?
It’s a 2 ½ hour trip each way, for a 30 minute hike to the top of what remains of Krakatau… for locals it’s $10. Thanks, but no-thanks.
I didn’t have to think too hard about that decision. Despite getting up early & enduring hours on the scooter- $100 wasn’t worth it. Besides, I got a tour of ½ the southern province of Lampung before 8am!
