Two people died in this bunker when the “flash flood” of hot gas & ash poured out of Merapi about a month ago. It’s interesting to see the trail of charred trees, and ash everywhere,,, with lush, green trees untouched one hill over.

This river bed used to have water in it,,, but now it’s dry & full of lava rock & ash… and will probably remain shallow for years to come.

The rainy season is going to bring more problems to this area,, because a lot of this ash & dirt will easily get swept downhill,,, clogging water outlets, contributing to flooding and mudslides.

It was 4pm by the time we got home, and I gave my friend Nina a call… ran through the shower & met her at the movies. We watched “Asterix” beating up on the Vikings (= ha ha. I think I absorbed some of Dan’s enthusiasm for wanting to watch it so much. It wasn’t exactly what I expected- but Nina & I still laughed through most of it & had a great time. I wished I brought Ojik! He would have loved it (=

We sat & talked about life for a while, and went to a super cool café (Cheers) near her Kos until 10pm,,, when she turned into a pumpkin because of Kos rules. Ah! Sucks!
It was probably a blessing in disguise, because I hadn’t packed a thing yet- and I was up till 3am working on that,,, getting ready to leave tomorrow =(
