We went white water rafting down the Elo River today before heading home. (= ah! What a great time. All 25 of us split up into 5 rafts, and never missed an opportunity to soak the other boats. Our raft guides were fun.
Life on the river is like a throwback in time. I lost track of how many kids we saw swimming naked in the river. Mostly boys around 8-13,,, we saw women washing their clothes in the river, two women (wrapped in sarongs) bathing in the river, and at least 7 old men- naked as the day they were born, all soaped up & enjoying a river-bath. Even saw a naked old man relieving himself (#2 style) just up-stream & around a bend from a few unfortunate swimmers (just my opinion). Ha ha. (=
It was beautiful being out there,, and we jumped out in a few places & went swimming ourselves. I brought my Frisbee too, and played at our lunch spot, 2/3 through the 10km raft trip (= what a good time!
After getting back tonight, I decided I had had enough of walking home & my transportation limitations… and found a place to rent a moped! Pretty much everything requires some bartering here. It helps that 5 of my friends have already rented scooters (Dan having been ripped off pretty good,, paying $100 a month for the same thing that Yancey found for $45 a month…)
So I talked a guy down from $90 a month to $80 for 6 ½ weeks… and drove home triumphantly on my new Honda 100cc scooter! (= ha ha
